Ask just about anyone who has lived in the Corning New York area for several decades about Lloyd Sprague, and you’ll hear the same words: “fine man,” “honorable,” “good citizen, ” “community minded,” and of course, “insurance.” It was this man, Lloyd D. Sprague, who founded Sprague Insurance in 1921, and who imbued it with the values and approach to doing business that have characterized the firm ever since. A decade after founding the company, he purchased F.D. Kingsbury and Son, an insurance company that had traced its origins to 1848.

Lloyd was vitally involved in the business from the day he opened the doors until his death in 1992, at age 98. But he was never too busy to contribute to the community. He was a charter member of the Corning Lions Club in 1927, and was active in the Chamber of Commerce and Corning Country Club. He and his wife Iva were active in their church and charitable organizations.

The purpose of insurance is to protect you against serious financial risk in the event of unforeseen loss, injury or accident. Insurance is a complex business. That’s why we take very seriously our professional responsibility to help you make the insurance decisions that are right for you – not offering you a one-size-fits-all policy.

Most people need different levels of life insurance coverage at various times during their lives. Here are some of the reasons they seek the protection of life insurance: enabling loved ones to maintain their lifestyle, caring for children, paying college tuition, providing for elderly parents, paying off mortgages, car loans and other sizeable debts, paying estate taxes, and covering final expenses.

Most people want the security of knowing that they will not suffer disastrous financial consequences of huge medical bills. There are a wide range of insurance options that can protect individuals and families. Choosing the right coverage for your needs is one of the most important financial decisions you will make.

Disability insurance provides some monthly income in the event that you are unable to work because of an accident, injury or other medically related condition that makes it impossible to perform your job. Some disabilities, like pregnancy or a broken bone, may result in a short amount of time out of work. Others, like a heart condition, stroke or a disease that impairs your mobility or thought processes, may result in your being out of work for a long period of time – or even the rest of your life.
